Dates instead of stars

Our inspectors rate with dates. A place can earn up to three:

• No datesOn The Red Table: a sound place to eat.
• One dateGo if you are near.
• Two datesPlan an evening.
• Three datesPlan a trip.

How our inspectors work

• They are paid by Muslim.Red, work part time in their own cities, and visit without saying who they are.
• They pay full price for every meal, like any diner, and we pay them back. Each receipt and each payment back is recorded to the cent.
• They score six things at every place: the cooking, the ingredients, consistency, the welcome, the setting and value.
• An editor reads every rating before it is published, and chooses its dates.
• Every rated place gets a fresh visit: three dates every six months, two every nine, one or none every year. A rating long past its fresh visit comes down until the visit is made.

Our rules

• Ratings are never sold. No payment, sponsor or promotion changes a rating or its place in any list.
• Our inspectors accept nothing for free. A visit where anything was free never counts toward a rating.
• Anything paid for that appears beside The Red Table is labeled as sponsored, and never sits inside a list.
• Diner reviews from Muslim.Red members are shown apart from our rating, and never change the dates.
• Each place shows its halal source in its own words, with the certifier it names. Muslim.Red does not certify any place's food.
